Gann Square of 9 generates a ladder of price levels spaced at angular steps around a reference price. It comes from Gann's spiral of numbers, where rotating a fixed number of degrees away from a starting value lands on the next significant price.

How it works

You feed in a reference_price to centre the spiral on, and the node walks outward in both directions at a fixed degree_step (a full turn is 360°). Each step yields a price level above and below the reference; levels_each_side controls how many steps are generated on each side. The resulting ladder of prices acts as candidate support and resistance.

How many steps the spiral generates above and below the reference, from 1 to 16 each side. A value of 4 yields four levels up and four down; larger values cover a wider price range with more candidate lines.

Examples

  • Centre the square on yesterday's close with degree_step 90 and levels_each_side 4 to get a tight grid of intraday support and resistance.
  • Use a recent swing low as the reference with degree_step 360 to project the next major Square-of-9 price targets above it.

Common mistakes

  • Picking an arbitrary reference_price — the Square of 9 only adds value when it is anchored to a meaningful high, low, or round number.
  • Setting levels_each_side very high and treating every line as significant, which clutters the chart with levels far from price.
